Issues Launching Companion/Windows Store Issues

Update as of 1/17/17: This issue was caused by a problem with the Microsoft Windows Store and should now be resolved. If you are still experiencing problems launching Companion, please follow the steps below. 


For those that are experiencing difficulty in launching Companion and are possibly receiving an error message that continues to redirect them back to the Windows Store, please follow the following instructions. In the meantime we are working with Microsoft to attempt to resolve the ongoing issues with the Windows Store and Lenovo Companion. Thank you for your patience. 

Windows Store / Windows Issues

User sees message saying Companion is not available when trying to use app.

Symptoms:

  • User is unable to update / install Companion from store
  • User sees "Check your account" "Companion is currently not available to you"

Troubleshooting Steps

Below are independent steps to take to try to fix the problem.  Try to use Companion between each step.  After Companion works, there is no need to continue with remaining steps.

  1. Try restarting computer
  2. Run "Windows Store Apps Troubleshooter" and follow recommendations.
    1. Via website: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/instantanswers/69e76f90-d54c-44cf-9851-c2d1542790db/run-the-troubleshooter-for-windows-apps
    2. Manual: Right-click Start, click Control Panel. Set the view option to Small icons or Large icons. Click Troubleshooting, and click “View all” in the tasks pane. Click “Windows Store Apps” from the list.
  3. Run in Command Prompt the following Command Prompt: WSReset.exe
  4. Reset app from "Apps & Features" page in Windows Settings app.  Warning: This will reset the app (not your computer) to how it was before you used it.
    1. Windows Settings App > System > "Apps & Features".
    2. Find Lenovo Companion > "Advanced Options" > Reset
  5. Uninstall and Reinstall Lenovo Companion. Warning: This will reset the app (not your computer) to how it was before you used it.
    1. Windows Settings App > System > "Apps & Features".
    2. Find Lenovo Companion > "Uninstall"
    3. Find Lenovo Companion in the Windows Store or open from the web: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/lenovo-companion/9wzdncrfj4mv 
    4. Install Lenovo Companion
